Dr. Wenyan Zhu started her passion for dentistry early on. As a high school senior, she started working in a dental office as a front desk personnel. During her college summers she returned to the same office where she worked as a dental assistant. She originally wanted to do research in her field of biomedical engineering at Vanderbilt University, but soon realized how much she enjoyed working with patients and decided to change her career. She graduated from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, where she met and was roommates with Dr.Ivy. After Columbia, she did a 1 year dental residency at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. She worked in NYC for 2 years before moving out to New Jersey for more space for her growing family. She has worked in a few private offices in New Jersey.
Dr. Zhu comes from a varied background. She was born in Shanghai, China, and her family immigrated to Kansas when she was 5. She is conversational fluent in Mandarin and Shanghainese. Since Kansas, she has lived in Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, New York, and finally New Jersey.
Dr. Zhu has 4 boys (!!!) who keep her busy when she’s not at work. They are an active family in the community: all the boys play baseball, are Cub Scouts, take weekend classes at Livingston Huaxie, and participate in school activities like the school spring musical. She also loves to volunteer her time to her kids’ schools, and she has been a class parent each year since her oldest was in preschool. Pre-covid she would also visit the local preschool and elementary school to talk to the kids about oral health during Kid’s Dental Health month. In her free time she likes to cook, grill, read, garden, hike, and do anything nature related.
